Self Love

Self love was something I struggled with for years and the reality is I still struggle with it! Unfortunately self love doesn't happen overnight. While I wish it did; the truth is that every day I have to work on it.

In high school I never really felt comfortable with the body I had and even more so I never really felt comfortable being the person I wanted to be. I know I'm not the only one that struggled but nobody talks about it.

Going to college didn't automatically fix things either. I still didn't know who I really was and as cheesy as it might sound it wasn't until I met my husband that I really began to discover the real me.

When I met Daniel he was confident, goal oriented, knew what he wanted in life, and wasn't afraid to chase after it. Slowly through our friendship he taught me to be the same. I still don't have it all together but honestly I don't think I ever will. But what I do know is that I'll never stop trying and that's how I know day by day I'm improving. There will be set backs and days where I am more like the old me but I know I'll always get back up and keep fighting to love me and the person I'm becoming.

Here's the thing:

Self love isn't just about loving your body. It's also about loving who is in the body! We all make mistakes and oftentimes we beat ourselves up too much. Being a mom is tough and trying to be the perfect mom is impossible! Like I've been saying though loving ourselves through the process is the important part. Knowing that the process is tough, is important and a key to success.

I believe that the same needs to be taught to my kids. While some things might happen overnight most of the things in life that are worthwhile don't. They take hard work and persistence. Placing one foot in front of the other, one day at a time, and never giving up. No matter how hard it gets; keep going. Take a break to reset and keep fighting. When things seem easier or like you've finally accomplished what you've been striving for enjoy that moment. Then realize that it's never really over. The journey isn't over until we leave this earth.

So take from this that:

YOU are strong.

YOU are beautiful.

YOU are enough.

You won't be able to just believe this overnight but you can try everyday. Tell yourself these things every day. Until one day you believe it more than ever before. This is they way to become Fortem4Life!
