Perfectly Imperfect

Are you perfect? Great me either. But You know what? I’m always striving to be perfect while at the same time accepting the fact that I’m Perfectly Imperfect. Yes. I’m striving for something I’ll never achieve! Why? That’s what we’re called to do!

“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.”

- Romans 12:2 -

Besides, why not? Life is short so why wouldn’t we try to do our best at it? Yes, of course there will be days where we don’t get much done and there will be days where we wonder where did the day go? There will be seasons of our lives where we are complacent or get caught up in life. We are human so this will happen! Just to clarify, I am not recommending that everyone become perfectionists! This is not something we need to stress about or cause an ulcer over. Ultimately though, we need to make sure we do our best to be the best version of ourselves we can be.

"The goal of our spiritual life is to become a new person in Christ. It is not enough just to be a "good person" or to be "nice". We are called to be saints."

- Father James Farfaglia -

When we go out to eat my husband and I expect the best service. Who wants to be served crappy food and be treated poorly by a server? When I get my hair done I expect to be 100% happy with the results. Don't you!? So why shouldn't my husband expect that I'm doing my best to be the best wife. Why shouldn't the clients I'm training expect the best from me? Why shouldn't my children expect that I'm doing my best (even though some days I fail)? Am I perfect? Once again, NO, but I am happily striving to be. Do I beat myself up for not being perfect? Absolutely not! The whole point is that we need to enjoy the process and understand that making this our goal for everything will only make us better.

"I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot; I wish that you were cold or hot. So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth."

- Revelations 3: 15-16 -

A lukewarm person accepts themselves for who they are with no intention of ever changing. Now let me cover my bases. What I do not mean here, for example, is our body. If someone is happy with the way they look is that a bad thing? No! That's wonderful but they should be doing everything they can to make sure that doesn't become lukewarm! That person should still strive to do their best to make sure that body stays healthy and that they continue to be happy with themselves. Even if we are doing a 'good' job at life shouldn't we see what we can do to be better? Shouldn't we find new things to try, read more books, meet new people, etc.

Maybe you already are striving to be the best you. Great! Keep doing that and help others do the same. If we all strive to be the best spouse, parent, friend, trainer, teacher, officer, doctor, etc. any position, the world will be a better place. So let’s start today knowing that yes, we will never be perfect, but we can embrace the fact that we are striving to be Perfectly Imperfect .
